Outrigger Waikiki Porte-Cochere Renovation

Waikiki

Overview

The porte-cochere renovation was the first project in Waikiki permitted under the 1997 amendment to the 1976 Waikiki Special District Ordinance. The renovation was conducted with 3,200 passersby per hour, 900 pedestrians per hour entering or departing the lobby and 70 vehicles per hour entering or departing the parking garage.

The Phase 2 lobby renovation created the Kaukahi 1 Cultural Corner which features a 100-year old outrigger canoe restored in 1996. The hotel’s Kaukahi corner was the recipient of the Hawai'i Visitors & Convention Bureau’s Keep it Hawai'i Certificate of Merit in the Visual Arts category, which recognizes outstanding efforts to preserve and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture.
