Pankow Celebrates Ribbon Cutting of LACCD Valley College Academic Complex 1

New 84,000 SF Design-Build facility expands academic opportunities and enhances the Valley Glen campus experience.

Pankow joined the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), campus leadership, faculty, students, and project partners to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Academic Complex 1 at Los Angeles Valley College.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Valley Glen campus and the official opening of a transformative, three-story, 84,000 SF academic facility designed to support the evolving needs of students and educators.

Delivered as a $90 million Design-Build project, Academic Complex 1 includes 24 classrooms, four flexible classrooms, six computer labs, a skills demonstration and testing classroom, and a large lecture hall. The building also features an administration suite with offices and support space for more than 70 faculty and staff, creating a centralized hub for academic services.

Beyond the building itself, the project encompasses more than 200,000 square feet of site development improvements. Enhancements include a redesigned historic quad, new outdoor collaboration and classroom spaces, a campus drop-off entry and turnaround, a 42-space staff parking lot, utility tie-ins, and a substantial underground stormwater retention system. Together, these improvements strengthen both campus functionality and the overall student experience.

Designed by QDG Architects and Achieving LEED Gold certification, Academic Complex 1 reflects a commitment to sustainability, flexibility, and long-term performance. The facility provides modern, technology-rich learning environments while creating welcoming spaces for cultural, social, and leadership programs that enrich campus life.

The ribbon cutting celebration brought together the broader college community, highlighting the shared vision and teamwork required to deliver a project of this scale and impact. Academic Complex 1 stands as a testament to construction excellence through collaboration and a legacy of experience — and represents an investment in generations of Valley College students to come.
