Pankow Builders Launches Pankow Wood Structures, Expanding Mid-Rise Multifamily Capabilities Across California
Los Angeles, CA — Pankow Builders today announced the launch of Pankow Wood Structures, a new business unit created to expand the company’s offerings and support a wider range of mid-rise multifamily projects. With more than 60 years in business, Pankow Builders will serve clients statewide through Pankow Wood Structures, taking on projects from both its Northern and Southern California offices.
Pankow Wood Structures will focus on multifamily residential, affordable housing, senior housing, student housing, hospitality, and modular projects, expanding Pankow Builders’ ability to deliver projects that utilize wood-framed structural systems. This added capability supports Type III and Type V construction, providing greater flexibility in structural approach and project strategy to meet growing demand across mid-rise housing developments.

Pankow Wood Structures will be led by Carl Vizcarra, who joins the company as Vice President. Vizcarra brings more than 25 years of experience delivering wood-framed and multifamily projects, with a portfolio spanning affordable housing, market-rate apartments, student housing, and complex urban infill developments. A graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a B.S. in Construction Management, Vizcarra has led more than $1.4 billion in multifamily construction throughout California.
His experience includes high-profile Southern California projects where he has been recognized for aligning design, budget, and constructability to manage complexity, control costs, and deliver projects responsive to market and community needs.
Vizcarra is joined by a team of experienced builders and is currently supporting Pankow’s active wood-frame projects in Newport Beach, Santa Rosa, and Sunnyvale, with additional opportunities already in planning.
Pankow Wood Structures will work closely with Pankow Concrete, combining wood-framed systems with self-performed concrete foundations and podiums where needed. Together, the teams offer clients a coordinated structural approach that supports efficient sequencing, clear decision-making, and thoughtful execution from the earliest stages of a project.
