A Space for Learning, Leadership,& Belonging
Girl Scouts, Arcadia, CA
Collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles to complete the non-structural tenant improvement of a 1,500 SF space in Arcadia, CA. The project transformed an underutilized interior into a flexible, inviting environment supporting meetings, training, and retail activities.
Key features include a wood slat wall with integrated bench seating, a new ADA-compliant kitchen and restrooms, and exposed ceiling systems that highlight the space’s height and craft. The project exemplifies Pankow’s ability to deliver small-scale, high-impact interiors that merge creativity, performance, and inclusivity.
Empowering Design in Every Detail
The Girl Scouts Arcadia project embodies the principles of adaptability, accessibility, and community-driven design. Working with office42 architecture, Pankow Builders transformed an existing 1,500 SF space into a flexible, multi-purpose environment that supports the Girl Scouts’ mission to empower young leaders through connection and creativity.
The design balances functionality and warmth to create a space that can effortlessly shift from meetings and training sessions to retail and community events. At its heart is a striking wood slat feature wall that brings visual rhythm and texture to the interior while incorporating built-in bench seating, encouraging collaboration and comfort. The design also celebrates transparency and volume, with 16-foot ceilings that expose mechanical, electrical, and plumbing elements, creating an atmosphere of authenticity and openness.
Accessibility and inclusivity were integral to the design intent. The renovation introduced two new restrooms, including an ADA-compliant facility, along with an accessible kitchen that doubles as a teaching and demonstration area. Custom casework and ample storage maintain flexibility while supporting both retail operations and educational programming.
More than a renovation, this project reflects the Girl Scouts’ values—curiosity, courage, and community—through design excellence. It provides a dynamic space where young people, families, and staff can gather, learn, and grow, surrounded by an environment that embodies leadership and creativity.
The Girl Scouts Arcadia space blends retail, training, and gathering in one flexible environment.
