Pankow Featured in ENR: Caltech’s Ginsburg Center for Quantum Precision Measurement
We’re proud to see Pankow Builders featured in ENR’s latest article, “Sound Footings to Unlock Quantum Conundrums,” highlighting the Ginsburg Center for Quantum Precision Measurement (GCQPM) at Caltech.
Designed to unite multiple branches of quantum science under one roof, the 70,000-SF facility, half of which sits below grade, is engineered for extreme precision.
As the Design-Builder, Pankow Builders collaborated closely with Caltech and design partner HOK to create a vibration-resistant, electromagnetically stable environment tailored to sensitive research.
Key building highlights include:
A 36-inch-thick basement slab to dampen vibration from nearby traffic
30-inch basement walls supported by 2,000 cubic yards of shotcrete
Specialized EMI shielding to protect lab equipment
Architectural design inspired by quantum concepts like the double-slit experiment
Scheduled for completion in Fall 2026, GCQPM represents the fusion of design innovation, technical precision, and scientific curiosity, values that align with Pankow’s commitment to building a better future through collaboration and construction excellence.
