Community at the Center

Covina Senior and Community Center, Covina, CA

Delivered through Progressive Design-Build delivery, this 10,000 SF facility provided seniors and the broader community with new spaces for health, learning, and recreation. The center includes multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, a fitness area, and a warming kitchen, with both indoor and outdoor amenities connecting to Kelby Park.

As Design Manager, Pankow Builders coordinated with the City and user groups to meet programmatic goals while maintaining a strict budget and accelerated schedule. Through innovative planning, the team kept the park open to the public, ensured seamless transitions for user groups, and achieved zero safety incidents despite the active environment.

Designing with Community in Mind

Pankow Builders’ Progressive Design-Build delivery of the Covina Senior and Community Center demonstrates how collaboration and creativity can balance community needs, program scope, and funding realities. Acting as Design Manager, our team guided the project from concept through permitting, facilitating coordination between City officials, designers, and user groups to ensure every voice was heard and every dollar maximized.

The new single-story, 10,000 SF facility features a fitness center, multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, and indoor/outdoor spaces designed for gatherings, wellness programs, and community events. To maintain access to Kelby Park, Pankow developed an alternate construction logistics plan that allowed public use of the park, Boy Scouts building, and youth soccer fields throughout construction.

Built with safety and inclusivity at its core, the project was completed without incident, an achievement made possible through careful planning, daily coordination, and engagement with stakeholders. Today, the center serves as a welcoming extension of the park, enriching the lives of Covina’s seniors and strengthening community ties.

Through a Progressive Design-Build partnership, the Covina Senior and Community Center was delivered on time and within budget.
