The Fastcap Facility, Part II

After touring the stations, FastCap did their morning huddle. 100 people including visitors and employees stood around a big projector. Every employee takes their turn leading a morning huddle. Kathy ran the meeting and she had been there less than a year. She followed a set agenda that covered topics including sales, customer reviews, and inventory. Then one employee talked about one of the 8 wastes, and another shared their 2 second improvement. Every day a FastCap employee tells a story of how they have observed one of their 21 Principals in action. “You really couldn’t tell the difference between folks that had been there 3 weeks to a few months versus the employees that had been there for many years. They all had a strong message” said Scott Anderson.

Our team was pleasantly surprised when FastCap started playing Simon’s Sinek’s video “Why Great Leaders Inspire Action.” FastCap spends a few minutes every day on continuous learning and development. Kim Lum shared this video last October in his post, “It Starts with Why” in the Constructive Thinking section of the Pankow portal.

FastCap spent time contributing to the Gratitude Box; where they celebrate the small wins and employees vocalize what you are grateful for. One thing Paul said was, “We are not looking for the magic bullet, but a snow ball that grows” said JR Gunter. “Paul is gone 50% of the time and the Lean culture continues because of the daily huddles and personal growth of the team,” he said.

“By participating in the morning huddle, I witnessed how impactful it is to take few minutes every day for learning and personal improvement time. It helps build a habit so everyone can see waste, eliminate waste and continuously improve. The habits lead to continuous small wins and improvements that relentlessly add up to big improvements” said Kim Lum.
