Power in Place

Southeast Community Center, San Francisco, CA

The Southeast Community Center at 1550 Evans Avenue stands as a vibrant symbol of renewal in San Francisco’s Bayview–Hunter’s Point neighborhood.

Built by Pankow Builders, the LEED™ Gold facility fulfills a long-standing commitment by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) to reinvest in the community. The campus features an outdoor amphitheater, a barbecue pit, large swinging benches, and $1M in locally commissioned art.

45,000 SF Multi-use Space

Pankow served as general contractor for the center’s construction, managing the delivery of a complex, multi-use public space. The 45,000-square-foot campus includes two buildings connected by a dramatic canopied breezeway.

The three-story main structure houses a ground-level café and childcare center, second-floor multipurpose rooms, and upper-level office space. The Alex Pitcher Room provides a state-of-the-art event space.

More than a structure

Pankow’s role extended beyond standard construction delivery. The Pankow team coordinated with architects, engineers, and the local community. With extensive community input shaping the design, Pankow ensured that those priorities were carried out.

The firm delivered a welcoming space that accommodates everything from workforce training programs and nonprofit meetings to family events and cultural gatherings. More than just a structure, the Southeast Community Center is a gathering place rooted in equity, sustainability, and neighborhood pride.

Pankow Builders transformed a community vision into a lasting and renowned neighborhood asset.
