On April 13, 2011, Oceanic Time Warner Cable marked the completion of the largest solar parking canopy project in Hawaii. The 856-kilowatt solar power installation includes solar photovoltaic panels on two buildings and parking canopies at the Mililani Tech Park on Oahu.
Pankow is pleased to announce the completion of Oceanic Time Warner Cable's 856-kilowatt solar system at Oceanic Time Warner Cable's Mililani Tech Park. The completed project is the largest solar parking canopy project in Hawaii.
Designed, engineered and constructed by Chevron Energy Solutions, Pankow provided construction services for the solar project that includes solar photovoltaic panels on two buildings and parking canopies. Tioga Energy provided financing services for the project and will own and operate the installations for the 20-year duration of its solar power purchase agreement (PPA).
"This project represents an important milestone in bringing alternative energy solutions to our island," remarked Mike Betz, Pankow's regional vice president. "As the installation subcontractors, we've worked closely with Chevron Energy Solutions, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, the architect and engineers to put together a design and installation plan that demonstrated to the Oahu business community a model for future commercial solar photovoltaic construction."
By reducing the purchase of utility power, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions equivalent to the carbon sequestered annually by more than 225 acres of trees. Under the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, the state seeks to generate 70 percent of its power from clean energy by 2030. Pankow also constructed Oceanic Time Warner Cable's new annex building, that, with the rooftop solar installation, is expected to acheive LEED Gold certification.
Pankow has constructed more than 22 megawatts of solar photovoltaic systems throughout California and Oahu over the past year.
