Zev Yaroslavsky Family Support Center wins DBIA WPR's 2016 Regional Excellence & Design Excellence Awards

On Thursday May 26th, a few Pankow team members gathered together for an evening of fun and networking as they attended the annual DBIA-WPR Awards Banquet held at Newport Beach Marriott. The team was able to meet several of the 2016 DBIA-WPR Scholarship Award winners, network with industry leaders, and honor our design-build team from the County of Los Angeles' Zev Yaroslavsky Family Support Center project. With multiple awards already under its belt, the project team was presented with the prestigious “Regional Excellence” and “Design Excellence” Awards. Regional Excellence exemplifies the principles of interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation and problem solving, "breaking new ground" in their approach and accomplishments. Design Excellence honors projects that achieve an owner's overall aesthetic and functional vision through outstanding design. Pankow was the design-builder for ZYFSC, comprised of a new 212,000 SF Office Building and a new 1,326-car Parking Structure which serves seven County departments and provides services to the public on the ground level.

Each year, as part of the DBIA-WPR Education Committee, several key individuals from various General Contracting firms, Owners, Architects, and other related firms work together to outreach to schools located within the Western Pacific Region (California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii) in an effort to educate and promote the use of Design-Build project delivery method. Students are encouraged to apply for DBIA-WPR Scholarships and to participate in the DBIA National Student Competition.

This year was a record breaking year for scholarship applications; DBIA-WPR received a total of 68 applications from 19 different schools. The Education Committee awarded ten scholarships at $4,000.00 each to ten well-deserving students. Another newsworthy item this year was the addition of a DBIA-WPR Student Chapter: New School of Architecture & Design (NSA+D) located in sunny San Diego.

Proud to be a Silver Sponsor this year, Pankow was delighted to have Ms. Jenna Frowein – one of the Stanford University Scholarship Award Winners - share a spot at the Pankow table. She is an amazing young woman who is working hard and passionately pursuing a degree in Architecture and an M.S. in Sustainable Design and Construction. Jenna is enjoying life to the fullest as she will be traveling to France in the near future.

Congratulations to all of the 2016 scholarship award winners; our future is looking brighter because of you!!
